Student info
iGrade is good but it does take alot of entering data and it live on the iPod or iPhone from then on. They say they will have export functionality but it has been some time. The individual approach makes it great for smaller class sizes and perhaps it would be a good app for independent school teachers because of that. There are data protection issues that also need to be resolved as well. I’m unsure on this so I will leave the final judgement to you.

Biancia Kattanach-Firebrace, Cale McCartin and Mitch Taylforth (left to right) were given iPods to use at school while completing year 8 at Shepparton High School.

IMAGINE your teacher giving you a brand-new music and video player and letting you download songs, trawl the internet and chat online to friends, all in the name of school work.
A class of year 8 students at Shepparton High School are the first in Australia to use the iPod Touch in the classroom for a global “mobile learning” project.
The students use the hand-held media players to search the web, do classroom quizzes, hand in homework assignments, research projects and collaborate online with students in Singapore. |

The Moving at the Speed of Creativity Blog teacher, discusses his need and surprise to find more video out possibilities with the iPhone and iPod Touch. Follow the clipped from link for more information.
I want/need my iPhone (without jailbreaking it) to support video-out functionality, not just for video/movie playback but also to show my active/current screen when selecting and using different applications. According to the Apple Support Article “iPod and iPhone: TV out support,” the iPhone and iPod Touch just support “TV Out” currently. “TV out” functionality is available if you own an “Apple Composite AV Cable,” advertised to:
Easily connect your iPod or iPhone to the composite video inputs on a TV. The cable also features audio and USB connectors, and a USB Power Adapter is included.

Mr Robbo brought this up on his blog and I have visited the site in question to find out if the Apple iPhone was compatible. Handwritted white board notes can be taken and adapted from a jpeg into a PDF. Apparently there are still problems with handwritten sheet noted and printed documents. This is a great tool for students and teachers wanting to keep their whiteboard for prosperity.
Last Night I stumbled across a fantastic little mobile tool called Qipit. Now I’ve talked before about tools that have instantly got me thinking about the possibilities they present for classroom use, but this one takes the cake. So what does it let you do? Well say for instance you only have a hard copy of a particular document or you have just drawn a fantastic mind map on the white board in one of your classes, or maybe one of your students has just handwritten an excellent story that you want to share…… Well simply take out your mobile phone and take a picture using its digital camera, send a copy to copy@qipit.com and your picture will be converted into a crisp, clean, electronic PDF file that you can fax, email and store right from your mobile phone. |
